Mistretta and Walton Named CSC First Team Academic All-Americans

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College saw a pair of student-athletes earn 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's At-Large First Team Academic All-America list, released by the association on Wednesday (July 8). Graduate student Tyler Mistretta of the 2026 National Championship men's golf team and junior Maddux Walton of the men's lacrosse program earned the honor. They become the third pair of Florida Southern student-athletes to earn Men's At-Large First Team Academic All-America in the same year following in the footsteps of John Coultas (Golf) and John VanDerLaan (Golf) who achieved the feat following the 2017-18 season and Coultas and Diego Gimenez (Swimming) after the 2016-17 year.  
 
Mistretta and Walton are two of just three Academic All-America selections from the Sunshine State Conference joining Reggie Fear (2nd Team, Eckerd, Golf).
 
Mistretta, a PING All-American Third Team selection, brings home his first Academic All-America honor after three-straight years of earning Academic All-District. The graduate student made three-straight NCAA Championship appearances, including being a part of the 2026 NCAA DII National Championship team. Mistretta shot a career-low 64 in the final round of stroke play at the 2026 National Championship, finishing third with a career-low three-round score of 205. He went 2-1 in Match Play in the Championship, and was one of three Moccasins to win their match on the final day to secure the National title. Mistretta was also named to the NCAA PING All-South Team in 2026, and was an All-SSC Second Team selection. He posted three top-10 finishes in the 2025-26 season, and finished with a Clippd ranking of #27.
 
The graduate student from North Palm Beach, Fla. boasts a 3.96 undergraduate GPA while studying business and posted a 3.93 GPA while completing his MBA.
 
Walton, a USILA Third Team All-American following his junior season, earns his first Academic All-American honors after back-to-back CSC Academic All-District selections. The junior started all 16 contests for the Mocs while leading the team in goals (40) and points (54) while ranking second in assists (14). He tallied nine hat tricks this season, with a season-high five goals coming against Adams State. Over the final four contests, including a pair of victories over Rollins, he scored 11 goals and handed out a pair of assists while tallying eight or more shots in each of the four games. He ranked second in the SSC in goals per game (2.5), third in points per game (3.38) and seventh in shots per game (6.69) this past season.
 
The junior from Columbia, Md. boasts a 3.95 GPA while studying accounting.
 
NCAA eligible sports that are included in the At-Large category include Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling, Women's Crew/Rowing, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo, and Men's Wrestling.
 
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
