AMERICUS, Ga. — A late goal by the Florida Southern College Moccasins (1-0-1, 0-0-0) led to a 1-1 draw with Georgia Southwestern State (0-0-1, 0-0-0) on Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Field. FSC recorded 10 total shots with four on target, while GSW managed four shots, converting one into a goal.
The Moccasins opened the first period by maintaining control with multiple corner kick opportunities. The team pressed forward, creating a significant chance when
Isabella Payne's shot was saved by Georgia Southwestern's goalkeeper, Alana Beddow, in the 44th minute. Despite the pressure, the period concluded with neither team finding the back of the net, keeping the score level at 0-0 going into the break.
The second period began with FSC applying pressure early.
Emily Fowlkes and
Ellie Dossantos each forced saves from GSW's goalkeeper, Alana Beddow, but could not find the back of the net. Despite the offensive efforts, the Hurricanes scored first with a goal by Jordin Gundin in the 57th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
Florida Southern responded with sustained offensive efforts, generating multiple shots from
Bria Weldon and
Hayden Johnston. The persistence paid off when
Ally Prentice scored in the 88th minute to level the score at 1-1. The period concluded with a crucial save by
Carly Brodsky to prevent a late Georgia Southwestern goal, preserving the 1-1 draw at the final whistle.
Prentice scored the only goal for FSC, converting her sole shot on target into a point. Weldon took two shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Brodsky played the full 90 minutes as goalkeeper, recording one save from four shots faced. Payne and Dossantos each had a shot on goal, keeping pressure on the opposing defense.
Jordin Gundin scored GSW's only goal and recorded one shot on goal. Alana Beddow played the full 90 minutes and secured three saves from ten shots faced, with one goal against.Â
In their next game, Florida Southern College will return to Lakeland for its home opener against Spring Hill College (Ala.) on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at Berend Field.Â
