LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer (3-0-4, 0-0-1 SSC) had its fourth-straight shutout with a 0-0 tie against Eckerd College (3-1-3, 0-0-2 SSC) to open conference play on Wednesday night.
Florida Southern's most important first-half work came defensively, as
Carly Brodsky made three saves during an EC stretch from 17:50 to 29:41 and helped keep the match at 0-0. Earlier,
Isabella Payne put the Mocs' first shot on goal in the seventh minute, but Madi Winn made the save for the Tritons. After weathering EC's pressure, Florida Southern pushed back with a late-half spell that included
Ellie Dossantos' shot in the 33rd minute, a corner kick at 37:12,
Ally Prentice's saved attempt at 41:15, and
Addyson Denecour's shot wide at 42:18. Neither side broke through before halftime, and the first half finished scoreless.
The Moccasins pressed through the closing stretch of the second half, generating five shots and a corner from the 82nd minute on, but the Tritons kept the match at 0-0. Earlier,
Carli Proctor put a shot on goal in the 49th minute,
Kyleigh Cilento missed high in the 53rd, and Florida Southern created a quick pair of chances in the 65th minute from
Emily Fowlkes and
Allie Draper. Brodsky kept EC off the board with a save on Ashley Nelson in the 62nd minute before the Mocs resumed their push with shots from
Georgina Spraggon and Denecour.
Sierra Spirk forced two late saves, including one in the 90th minute after attempts by
Sammie Markey and
Frankie Gatien, as the half and the match finished scoreless at 0-0.
Brodsky played all 90 minutes in goal, made four saves, and finished with a shutout, her fourth straight for the season. Spirk recorded a team-high two shots and put both on goal. Denecour matched the team high with two shots.
Up next, Florida Southern travels to Boca Raton, Florida, to face Lynn University on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Bobby Campbell Stadium.
