Collica Named D2CCA All-American

Morgan Collica Becomes Third Moccasin to be Named an All-American in Program History

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2 CCA) has unveiled the D2CCA Women's Soccer All-America Teams to show Florida Southern College's Morgan Collica named to the All-America Third Team.

Collica is the first Moccasin named to the D2CCA All-America Teams and the third in program history to be named an All-American (Erin Hopkins NSCAA All-American in 2008; Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck Daktronics All-American in 2007). The defender from Aurora, Ohio was the only Sunshine State Conference student-athlete named the All-America Teams.

"It's a special award to receive and the recognition she is getting is justified," said head coach Paul Lawrence. "We brought Morgan here for a reason, her experience alone has proven to be invaluable to our program. It's no secret what she does well, she's a winner and that was evident in her consistent performances throughout the season."

Collica earned the All-American honor after being selected to the D2CCA All-South First Team a few weeks ago and leading the Moccasins to a historic 2022 campaign. The Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year led a Mocs defense that posted nine shutouts and held opponents to a school record of 0.79 goals per game. The First Team All-SSC winner scored three times, netting two game-winners in her team-leading 1,559 minutes played across 18 games.

The senior transferred to Florida Southern College this season and had an immediate impact on the team with a young core group of players. A leader of a strong defensive backline for the Mocs, Collica helped the team to the program's fewest goals allowed, with only 15 all year in one of the best season performances in school history. The Mocs earned the program's first NCAA postseason victory, first SSC Regular Season Championship, and most wins since 2008. The eight conference wins this season are the most in program history and they finished with nine shutouts on the year, breaking another season record.

Communication professionals from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three D2 CCA All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. A total of 39 student-athletes filled out the three teams. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
