Mocs' Cold-Shooting Allows 'Canes to Win Big

The Moccasins knew they would have to play well to have a chance against the nationally-ranked Miami Hurricanes Saturday, but they suffered a cold shooting night from the field and that allowed the Hurricanes to post a 96-60 victory at the BankUnited Center.

FSC did have a lead briefly, at 5-2, but Miami took the lead at 6-5 with 16:33 left in the first half and led the rest of the game. A 19-5 run pushed Miami's lead from 14-10 to 33-15 and the 'Canes led 43-25 at halftime. The Moccasins shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half (9-25) and finished the game shooting 28.4 percent (19-67). They were 6-22 (27.3 percent) from three-point range.

John Thompson came off the bench to lead the Moccasin scoring with 10 points. He was the only Moccasin in double figures. Dwayne Collins and Jack McClinton each had 18 points to lead the Hurricanes. Miami outrebounded FSC 56-37. Rashaad Singleton and Zach Smith each had seven rebounds to lead the Moccasins and Singleton added three more blocked shots to his total, giving him 20 in four games.

The Moccasins (3-1) play their home opener Tuesday night at 7:30 in Jenkins Field House against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. The game will be broadcast on the internet on SportsLine Radio Network with Jim Henderson calling the play-by-play.
