MIAMI SHORES - The Moccasins pulled away from a scrappy Barry club in the final minutes to record their seventh straight win, 79-66, here Saturday.
Barry, the Sunshine State Conference leader in scoring defense, held a 50-47 lead with 11:23 to go before the Moccasins went on an 11-1 run to take a 58-51 lead with 7:18 remaining. Rion Rayfield's basket with 2:11 left gave FSC (13-4, 3-1 in the SSC) its first double-digit lead and the Moccasins maintained it the rest of the game. The seven-game winning streak matches the Moccasins' longest winning streak of last season.
Rob Eldridge, one of four Moccasins to score in double figures, tallied a game-high 23 points. For the fourth straight game, John Thompson posted a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 13 rebounds. It was his sixth double-double of the season. Rayfield finished with 14 points off the bench. Brandon Jenkins tossed in 11. Rashaad Singleton contributed eight points and blocked six shots, giving him 63 blocks for the season.
Karega Tucker led Barry with 17 points.
The game was delayed for approximately 30 minutes in the first half when Barry's Willie Whitfield was injured in a fall. He was taken off the court on a stretcher, but reportedly did have feeling in his arms and legs.
The Mocs play Eckerd Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
