Mocs Pull Away from Flagler to Post 85-63 Win

LAKELAND - It took the Moccasins a while, but they finally shook off a pesky Flagler team and went on to post an 85-63 non-conference win at Jenkins Field House here Saturday night.

Flagler (2-15) came into the game with 14 consecutive losses, but led by as many as six points in the first five minutes of the game and was still up 12-10 at the 13:47 mark. Megan Dzikas tied the game with a layup at the 12:51 mark and the Moccasins added seven more unanswered points to go ahead 19-12 with 8:34 remaining in the half and they never trailed from that point The halftime margin was 37-25 and the Saints never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Moccasins (12-3) sank 11 three-pointers in the game with six different players making at least one. Dzikas had three of the three-pointers and led the Mocs with 15 points. Tanja Speaker and Emer Foley each scored 14 points off the bench.

For Speaker, her 14 points represent her career scoring high. Chelsea Johnson added 10 points plus a career-high seven assists. Johnson and Kirstin McIntyre shared rebounding honors for the Moccasins with five apiece.

Wednesday the Moccasins return to Sunshine State Conference action with a 5:30 p.m. game at Jenkins Field against arch-rival Tampa.
