In its final home match of the season, Florida Southern took first in all but one event, got one record and one near-record from David Stiles, and rolled to a 143-41 win over Florida A&M.
In the first individual event of the afternoon, Stiles won the 1650 freestyle in a school-record time of 17:14, breaking a mark he'd established earlier this year by 20 seconds. He won the event by more than 90 seconds. The freshman then fell just short of another record in the 500 freestyle, falling fourth-tenths of a second short of Matt Bonneau's time in the 2005 Sunshine State Invitational.
The Moccasins also got two individual wins from Kelly Dorian (the 100 and 200 freestyle) and and Daniel Naherny (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke). Meanwhile, Greg Gorman posted a win in the 50-yard freestyle and Jay Pelham won the 400 IM. Gorman was also the runner-up in the 100 butterfly, finishing just ober half a second behind Naherny.
Florida Southern led 49-3 after the first three events, and the only win by a Florida A&M swimmer came in the next to last event. Greg Lowe won the 100-yard breaststroke for the Rattlers, edging out Charlie Dolan by .67 seconds.
Florida Southern's next dual meet will be on Saturday, January 31 at Rollins.
