AIKEN, S.C. - For the first time in four games this season, the Moccasins did not score 100 points, but that didn't stop them from notching their fourth straight win, 87-74, on the road over South Carolina-Aiken Saturday.
Terry Jenkins poured in a career-high 26 points and was one of six Moccasins to score in double figures. Jenkins, whose previous career-high had been 21 points last Wednesday night vs. Saint Ambrose, connected on eight of 15 from the field, and was five of eight from the free throw line.
Rion Rayfield tossed in 15 points and Brandon Jenkins scored 14. John Thompson, A.J. Hawkins and Preston Fredrick each scored 10.
Hampered by foul problems, Thompson played just six minutes in the first half and 17 minutes for the game, but Fredrick came off the bench to contribute his season scoring high, including six of six from the free throw line. Hawkins not only had his season scoring high, but his season rebounding high as well with seven. Brandon Jenkins' 14 points were his season high.
A 6-2 run in the final 1:32 of the first gave the Moccasins a 45-41 halftime lead and they stayed in front the entire second half. Fredrick's free throw at the 9:17 mark in the second half put the lead into double digits and the Moccasins kept it there the rest of the game.
The fourth-ranked Moccasins will go for their fifth straight win Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah, Ga.
