LAKELAND -- Zach Maggard clubbed two home runs to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and drove in five runs while Trae Gore rapped out five hits to lead a 22-hit attack as Florida Southern routed Georgia Southwestern 16-2 in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Henley Field.
Florida Southern, 12-4, had five homers in the game with Will Cherry hitting a pair of solo homers and Robbie Shields added a two-run shot.
Gore, batting in the lead-off spot, had a double, triple and three singles as the top five guys in the Moccasin batting order combined for 19 hits in 29 at bats. Gore was retired in his first at bat but finished with five hits in his last five at bats.
The Mocs led 7-2 in the fifth on the strength of four homers and then blew the game open by sending ten men to the plate in the seventh.
Stephen Batman worked seven innings for the Mocs surrendering nine hits but gave up just two runs, one earned, to improve to 3-1 on the year. Vince Keen worked the final two frames for FSC retiring all six batters he faced.
