The Moccasins struck for five runs in the first inning and went on to give Jim Tyrrell a 10-3 victory over Warner in his debut as Moccasin head coach Tuesday night at Henley Field.
In the Moccasin first, Robbie Shields doubled in Trae Gore, who had singled to start the inning. Shields scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Maggard. Nick Stanley, who had walked, came around to score on Andrew Grutka's base hit. Will Cherry capped the inning with a two-run homer.
Shields, who had a double, single, triple and two walks, drove in Colin Kaline with a base hit in the second. The 16th-ranked Moccasins made it 8-0 on Grutka's two-run homer in the third. Stanley's two-run single in the sixth closed out the Moccasins' scoring.
Stephen Batman made the pitching start for the Moccasins. He worked a pre-determined three innings, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out four and walking one, to pick up the opening night victory. He was one of five Moccasin pitchers used in the game.
The Moccasins play West Florida and Flagler Saturday and Sunday at St. Augustine.
