Mocs Pitchers Fan 14 In 5-1 Win

Moccasin pitchers struck out 14 batters and the third-ranked Mocs reached the 20-win plateau with a 5-1 decision over St. Michael's of Vermont Monday night at Henley Field.

Eddie Sipple worked 6.2 innings and struck out a career-high 12 to improve his record to 2-0 this season. Dustin Merrell made his FSC debut and struck out two in an inning of work and Daniel Tillman fanned the final two batters to pick up his sixth save.

The Moccasins (20-5) scored single runs in the second on an infield single by Colin Kaline, in the third on a single by Jordan Guida and in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Adam Miller. Colin Kish tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth with his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot over the right field fence.

St. Michael's, which just played its first game of the season Sunday, got its only run in the third, when Tim McDonnell led off with a triple and scored two batters later on Matt Beaulieu's infield out.

The Moccasins open a Sunshine State Conference series against Rollins Friday with a 7 p.m. single game at Henley Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
