LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (23-17, 12-9 SSC) secured a decisive 17–6 victory over Lynn University (20-20, 10-12 SSC) on Friday night at Henley Field. The Moccasins' offense erupted with 17 hits, including a nine-run seventh inning, to clinch the win.
Florida Southern took an early lead in the first inning with
Carson Brady's three-run homer to left field, scoring
Ryan Jenkins and
Eric Harrison Jr. An additional run was added when
Brock Budacki scored on a throwing error, bringing the score to 4–0 after one inning.
In the second inning,
Eli Thurmond scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mikey Scott, and Jenkins crossed home on a wild pitch, extending the lead to 6–0.
Florida Southern added two more runs in the third inning.
Will Burke scored on a wild pitch, and Jenkins drove in Thurmond with a double, making it 8–0.
Lynn got on the board in the fourth inning with a single from Amaris Harrison, bringing in Charlie Devito. The score was 8–1.
Lynn narrowed the gap in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a balk and an RBI groundout to score three runs, closing the score to 8–4.
Florida Southern's explosive seventh inning began with Scott's two-RBI triple, followed by RBIs from Harrison Jr., Brady, Burke,
Cory Filley, and
Ethan Burkhardt. The inning concluded with a nine-run rally, moving the score to 17–4.
Lynn responded in the eighth inning with a two-run homer by Jackson Tyer, but the Mocs maintained a commanding lead, 17–6.
The final inning saw no further scoring, cementing Florida Southern's dominant victory over the Fighting Knights with a final score of 17–6.
Jenkins scored three runs and recorded two hits, including a double, while drawing three walks. Scott drove in three runs and recorded a triple in the game. Brady added two runs and a home run, finishing with four RBIs. Budacki collected three hits and scored two runs, contributing significantly on offense.
Sachem Ramos pitched four innings, while striking out five batters.
Ethan Breslin followed with one inning, with one strikeout.
John Essig recorded the win by pitching 2/3 inning, striking out two batters.
Robert Tracy III and
Rhett Raymer each added two strikeouts in their respective appearances.
Colby Rice,
Adler Holtz, and
Tanner Quick combined for 1 2/3 innings, each contributing to the defensive effort with Holtz and Quick adding a strikeout apiece.
Looking ahead, Florida Southern will face the Fighting Knights in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
