Patrick Szczerba struck out Rollins' Eugene Martinez with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to preserve a 5-4 win and give the Moccasins a series sweep over the Tars Saturday at Henley Field.
The third-ranked Moccasins had won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader 7-3 behind the complete-game pitching performance of Stephen Batman.
Szczerba had replaced Dustin Merrell with two outs and a runner on base in the seventh. After giving up a single and a walk to load the bases, he fanned Martinez to earn his second save of the season. The win went to Daniel Tillman (3-1), who moved from his normal closer's role to a starter in the second game of the twin-bill. Tillman pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
An unearned run scored by Robbie Shields in the fourth proved to be the difference. That put FSC ahead 5-1. An RBI-single by Zach Maggard, a bases-loaded walk to Trae Gore and a two-run single by Colin Kaline produced four runs in the third for the Moccasins (23-5, 5-1 SSC). Shields and Maggard each had three hits in the game.
Rollins fell to 17-12, 3-6 SSC.
Batman worked his first complete game of the season and fifth of his career in winning game one. He struck out nine and walked none to improve his record to 6-1.
A two-run homer by Nick Stanley, his first of the season, capped a three-run fourth that put FSC ahead 5-1. Stanley and Will Cherry each drove in a pair of runs in the game.
The Moccasins play Southern Connecticut Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Henley Field.
