The first NCAA Division II South Region rankings have been released and Florida Southern is third, trailing two schools from the Gulf South Conference. Sitting in the #1 position is the University of Alabama-Huntsville, while the University of West Florida is second.
Just behind Florida Southern is Rollins College, while Valdosta State is fifth. Completing the top ten are West Alabama, Nova Southeastern, Tampa, Saint Leo and Arkansas-Monticello. The rankings are used to select teams for NCAA postseason play at the end of the season, with the eight teams in each of the eight designated regions receiving bids. Conference champions earn automatic bids, with the South Region automatic qualifiers coming from the Sunshine State Conference, the Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Conference. No team from the SIAC was among the top ten teams released on March 25.
The Moccasins are currently 24-9 overall and tied for second in the SSC with a 4-2 conference record. The Mocs have already taken two-out-of-three from Nova and Rollins in conference play, and lost two-of-three to Alabama-Huntsville. They'll face Saint Leo in a three-game series at Barnett Field on March 31 and April 1, and end the regular with a three-game series at Tampa.
