Mocs Outslug West Chester 21-13

Wade Kirkland and Robbie Shields each had three hits and drove in four runs to power the ninth-ranked Moccasins past 11th-ranked West Chester 21-13 Friday night at Henley Field.

The Moccasins scored 17 runs in the first three innings and wound up needing almost all of them, as West Chester kept plugging away, scoring 11 runs in the final five innings.

After a West Chester error gave the Moccasins three unearned runs in the first, FSC sent 13 men to the plate in an eight-run second inning that was higlighted by Will Cherry's grand slam home run, his seventh of the season. The Moccasins tacked on six more runs in the third to stake starter Max Russell to a 17-1 lead. Russell worked five innings and picked up his third win without a loss.

FSC closed out its scoring with a four-run fifth inning. Braxton Chisholm belted a solo homer and Robbie Shields delivered a three-run shot.

The win was the Moccasins' sixth in a row and raised their record to 15-4. West Chester is 6-6.

The two teams play a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Henley Field.
