The top-ranked Moccasins swept both games of Saturday's doubleheader at 12th-ranked Valdosta State, winning the opener 13-5 and taking the nightcap 8-2.
Down 3-2 going to the seventh inning in game one, the Moccasins exploded for 11 runs. Wade Kirkland had the big blow in the inning, a grand slam home run, his sixth homer of the season.
Max Russell improved his record to 5-0 with 7.1 innings of work. He struck out nine, walked three, scattered six hits and allowed four runs.
In the second game, the Moccasins jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, boosted by a four-run second inning.
Colin Kaline and Andrew Grutka each had two hits in the game. Kaline drove in three runs and Grutka had a home run, his fourth of the season.
Gus Schlosser worked a seven-inning complete game to raise his record to 4-2. He struck out six and walked none.
Now 20-2, the Moccasins finish their three-game series with the Blazers with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
