Box Score WINTER PARK - Playing without starters Terry Jenkins and Cameron Wooten, the short-handed Moccasins weren't able to match Rollins' firepower and fell to the Tars, 79-68, here Saturday at Warden Arena.
The loss dropped the Moccasins out of a first-place tie in the Sunshine State Conference and left Rollins and Tampa sharing the top spot. FSC is 5-2 in the league, while Rollins and Tampa each are 6-1. The Moccasins are 13-5 overall. Rollins improved to 14-4.
Rollins led the entire first half and enjoyed a 25-11 advantage with 8:30 left before the Moccasins trimmed the margin to six, 37-31, at halftime. FSC scored seven straight points in the first three minutes of the second half to enjoy a brief 38-37 lead on Brandon Jenkins' first basket of the game with 17:34 remaining. However, the Tars took the lead back on Nick Wolf's basket with 17:16 to go and never trailed the rest of the game.
The Moccasins closed the gap to two, 48-46, on Preston Fredrick's three-pointer at the 12:22 mark, but the Tars answered with a 7-0 run and the Moccasins never got closer than five points the rest of the way.
Rion Rayfield led the Moccasins with 13 points and in the process moved into sixth place on the FSC career scoring list with 1,624 points, passing John Edwards (1973-76). Andre Hawkins and Brett Bailey each had 11 points for the Moccasins.
Wolf led Rollins with a 23-point,16-rebound double-double.
Terry Jenkins, the Moccasins' leading scorer, missed his second straight game due to illness and Wooten was unable to go after suffering a leg injury in Wednesday night's game at Tampa.
The Moccasins take on Nova Southeastern in a match-up of the SSC's top two scoring teams Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
