A dominating performance by both the men and the women earned Florida Southern the National Collegiate Water Ski Association Eastern Regional Championship Sunday and a trip to the NCWSA National Championship in Louisiana.
FSC won the eight-team event with a combined total of 6,145 points. Alabama was a distant second with 1,760 points. FSC also produced the men's and women's overall individual winners.
Alex Paradis took the men's overall title with 915 points and Lauren Morgan claimed the women's overall title with 710 points. Paradis was fourth in tricks, sixth in the slalom and second in the jump. In addition to winning the jump, Morgan was fourth in tricks and seventh in slalom.
Not only did FSC claim both overall winners, it also had the individual winner in four of the six events. For the men, Keaden Hornyak won the slalom and Mario Mustafa won the jump. For the women, Manon Costard won the slalom. She also was second in the women's overall point totals, just 20 points behind Morgan.
Joining FSC and Alabama at the NCWSA Division I National Championship Oct. 13-15 at Zachary, La., will be Rollins, which placed third in the Eastern Regional with 1,540 points. Clemson and North Carolina, which finishined fourth and fifth, qualified for the Division II Championship.
FSC went into the Eastern Regional ranked third nationally in the NCWSA Top 20. The regional meet was held at Lake Grew in Polk City.
