Mocs Suffer First Loss At Flagler

Box Score

Flagler had an answer to every Moccasin threat Wednesday night, snuffing out a ninth-inning rally to down the second-ranked Moccasins 8-7 at St. Augustine.

It was the Moccasins' first loss in eight games. Flagler improved to 5-4.

Mike Snyder put the Moccasins on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a grand slam homer, his third home run of the season. Flagler answered with a five-run second inning against starter Eddie Sipple.

After the Saints added a run in the fourth to go up 6-4, Cory Jensen's RBI-single in the sixth made it 6-5, but the Saints came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to boost their lead to 8-5.

A Flagler error and Tyler Benzel's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth cut the Saints' lead to 8-7, but Max Rusch came out of the bullpen and struck out Snyder with two men on base to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Tony Mitchell delivered a one-out triple, but Rusch struck out pinch-hiter J.J. Downum and, after Kyle Gibbs walked, fanned Jensen to the end the game.

The Moccasins will get a re-match with the Saints Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the two teams meet at Henley Field.
