Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE - Terry Jenkins drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap a miraculous Moccasin comeback and give them a 104-103 win over Nova Southeastern in a wild shootoout here Saturday in the Sunshine State Conference regular season finale for both teams. The game was tied 10 times and there were 20 lead changes.
Jenkins had tied the game at 101-101 with 37 seconds left, but Nova's Max Pipendieck was fouled and sank a pair of three throws to give the Sharks a 103-101 edge with eight seconds left before Jenkins connected for his game-winner.
After the Sharks led 51-46 at halftime, they were up 72-69 with 11:53 to go, then went on a 9-0 spurt to expand the lead to 81-69 at the 10:41. They widened the margin to 84-71 with 9:51 left before the Moccasins started their sensational comeback. With 4:23 to go, the Mocs were still trailing 98-87, but then Jenkins, Brett Bailey and Rion Rayfield put together a 14-3 run that pulled them even. Jenkins had a pair of three-pointers during the surge, Bailey scored five points and Rayfield added a three.
Rayfield led the Moccains with 23 points, including five three-pointers, and nine assists. Bailey had the best game of his career with career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (11). Damon Ellison added 17 points and Jenkins had 18, all on six three-pointers. John Brooks led Nova with 23 points, including five three-pointers and Alex Gynes added 21.
Each team made 14 three-pointers in the game. The Moccasins shot 50 percent from the field (37-74) and committed just seven turnovers, matching their season low. Nova shot 54.8 percent from the field (34-62).
With the win the Moccasins finished the regular season at 21-7, 12-4 in the SSC, good for second place. Rollins claimed the regular season title with a win over Lynn to finish at 13-3, 22-6 overall.
Moccasin fans may get to see a repeat of this game Wednesday night, because, as luck would have it, the Moccasins and Sharks will turn right around and play each other again in the first-round of the SSC Tournament Wednesday night at 7:30 at Jenkins Field House.
