Hot Bats Lift Mocs To 13-7 Win Over Minnesota-Duluth

The Moccasins baseball team scored at least one run in each of the first six innings enroute to a 13-7 victory over Minnesota-Duluth Friday night at Henley Field. Florida Southern improves its record to 11-5, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-2.

Colin Kaline started the scoring in the bottom of the first. After reaching base on an error he scored on a Mike Snyder double down the leftfield line. Tony Mitchell doubled to left center field which scored Snyder and gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the second inning, as Cody Aasen had an infield single. After Joe Copas was hit by the pitch, Lucas Steinbach had a single to right that scored Aasen. Tyler Erickson followed with a two-run single giving UMD a 3-2 lead.

The Mocs responded in the bottom of the second as Austin Chubb and Kyle Gibbs each singled with one out. Cory Jensen followed with an RBI-double down the leftfield line, which put the Mocs back onto the lead a 4-3.

Snyder reach based in the third on an error, advanced to third on Mitchell ground out, and then scored on Tyler Benzel's sacrifice fly. The Mocs picked up two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings extending the lead to 9-3.

Colin Kish led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his first home run of the season. After a single by Snyder, Mitchell hit his second homerun of the season to right field. Two batters later, Zach Maggard hit the third home run of the inning to cap the Mocs' scoring.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning before Mike Czenszak retired the final three batters for the 13-7 final.

Gus Schlosser went six innings for his second win of the season.

Every starter had at least one hit for Moccasins. Snyder finished the game 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.

The Moccasins, ranked 22nd in this week'€™s Division II Coaches'€™ Poll, wrap up their series with Minnesota-Duluth Saturday at Henley Field. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
