Box Score The Moccasins used a four-run first inning to help propel themselves to a 6-2 victory over Saginaw Valley Wednesday night at Henley Field.
Cory Jensen got the inning started with a single to right field and advanced to third on a Colin Kaline single. Jensen scored the first run of the game on a Colin Kish sacrifice fly to center field. Mike Snyder added an RBI double, which scored Kaline. Tony Mitchell doubled to right followed by a Tyler Benzel RBI single to left field. After Zach Maggard struck out swinging, Austin Chubb singled to the gap in right field to score Mitchell.
The Mocs' bats struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kyle Gibbs and Jensen both singled to start the inning. Kaline had an RBI double to the gap in left center that scored Gibbs, while Jensen was thrown out at the plate. Synder doubled to score Kaline for the Mocs' sixth run.
Anthony Dovale scattered five hits and two runs over five innings, for his first victory of the season. Mike Czenszak, Nate Carter, Patrick Szczerba, and Jake Guengerich pitched the final four innings, only allowing one-hit.
Kaline went 4-5 with an RBI and scored two runs. Jensen and Kish each added three hits for the Moccasins.
The Moccasins, ranked 22nd in this week's Division II Coaches' Poll, play a three game series with Minnesota-Duluth this weekend at Henley Field. Friday's single game will begin at 7 p.m. while the doubleheader Saturday starts at 2 p.m.
