Schlosser Pitches Gem, Mocs Defeat Rollins 12-1

Box Score

Gus Schlosser had another solid pitching performance to lead the 30th-ranked Moccasins to a 12-1 decision over Rollins Thursday night at Henley Field. With the win the Moccasins improve to 30-15 overall and 14-8 in the SSC, while Rollins falls to 27-24 and 6-16 in conference play.

Schlosser allowed one run in seven innings, scattered five hits, struck out eight and walked none to improve to 7-1 on the season. He lowered his ERA to 2.90. Nick Krolczyk and Nate Carter each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Moccasins struck in the first with a two-out three run rally. After getting the first two batters out, Tars pitcher Will Krasne hit Kelvin Clark. Mike Snyder doubled to right center, which scored Clark. Tony Mitchell followed with an RBI-single down the right field line and scored on a Tyler Benzel single.

The Tars scored their lone run in the second inning when Sean Reilly led off with a double, advanced to third and scored on back-to-back groundouts by Zach Persky and Brian Lattanzi. This cut the lead to 3-1.

The Mocs responded with two runs in the bottom of the second. Zach Maggard led off the inning hitting his 33rd career home run, leaving him two shy of the Mocs' career record of 35. Later in the inning, Colin Kaline singled to right field. Clark reached base on an error which allowed Kaline to advance to third. He would score on a throwing error by the catcher trying to pick off Clark stealing second.

In the fourth inning Clark hit a two-out triple to center field. After Snyder was hit by a pitch, Mitchell hit a two-run triple down the right field line to extend the Mocs lead to 7-1.

In the fifth inning Kaline hit a bases loaded single up the middle which scored Colin Kish and Maggard. After Clark grounded out, Snyder hit a three-run homer, his ninth of the season, to right field for the 12-1 final.

Each Moccasin starter reached base at least once in the game. Snyder, Kaline, Mitchell, and Maggard each had two hits in the game.

Florida Southern and Rollins complete their three-game series on Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Henley Field. Before the game the Mocs will honor 12 seniors making their final home appearance.
