Winning Streak at Four for Menâ?' Tennis Team After 8-1 Win Over Lindenwood

LAKELAND â€" Winning all six singles matches in straight sets, three of them without dropping more than one game, #23 Florida Southern ran its winning streak to four matches with an 8-1 win over Lindenwood (MO) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Moccasins (11-9) never trailed in the match after Benoit Paradis and Emanuel Lueber opened with an 8-1 win at number two doubles, and Nathan Leavitt and Vladimir Barabash followed with an 8-4 win at the third position. It was the third win in the last six days for Leavitt and Barabesh, who are now 3-0 as playing partners.

Ivan Marevic and Jorge Gutierrez, who at one point trailed 7-2 at the top flight, gave the Mocs a chance to win all three doubles points by cutting it to 7-6, but Lindenwood’s Thiago Mastroianni and Eric Tucoulou held on for an 8-6 win to give the Lions (5-7) their only point.

In singles play, Carl Lundberg put the Mocs ahead 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four, Paradis followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number one, and Leavitt clinched the outcome at number three with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

The Mocs’ most dominating win came from Gutierrez at number five singles, where he knocked off Rahul Sadhwani, 6-0, 6-0. Gutierrez has now won seven straight matches, and 11 of his last 12. Meanwhile, Charles Garneau ran his personal winning streak to eight in a row with a 6-1, 6-2 win at number six singles.

Florida Southern will play its first Sunshine State Conference match in over a month when it meets Saint Leo on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., at Saint Leo.
