Nick Krolczyk tossed a complete game seven-inning three-hitter, as the Moccasins downed top-ranked Tampa, 3-1, in the second game of Saturday’s Sunshine State Conference twin-bill at Tampa. The Spartans won the first game 7-2.
Krolczyk, who got a win in his first start last Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic, improved his record to 3-0. He allowed just three singles and, after giving up a first-inning run, he did not allow a runner past second base the rest of the game. He walked three and struck out one while lowering his team-best ERA to 2.38.
The Moccasins did all their scoring in the fifth-inning on an RBI-triple by Keith Curcio that scored Cory Jensen, an RBI-single by Austin Chubb that scored Curcio and an RBI-single by T.J. Kuban that scored Mike Snyder. Chubb, Kuban and Jensen each had two hits in the game.
In the first game, the Spartans’ Sean Bierman did not allow an earned run in his seven innings of work and improved his record to 6-2.
Tampa scored two in the third and added a run in the fifth before producing a three-run sixth. Anthony Caronia had three hits and a pair of RBI for the Spartans. Jensen had two of the Moccasins’ five hits. Clay Chapman took the loss, dropping his record to 3-3. Curcio's sacrifice fly scored J.J. Downum in the sixth for the Moccasins' first run. Their second run came in the seventh on a Tampa error.Â
The Moccasins are 21-17, 9-9 in the SSC. Tampa is 30-7, 12-6 in the SSC.
Next Friday and Saturday the Moccasins play their final home series of the season at Henley Field against Nova Southeastern.
