Series Opener at Florida Tech Suspended Due to Rain in Eighth Inning, Teams Will Resume Play Saturday

MELBOURNE - Florida Southern was one out away from snapping its 17-game road losing streak when the sky opened up and down came the rain and lightning that forced the suspension of Friday's Sunshine State Conference series opener at 25th-ranked Florida Tech with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

When the game was suspended, the Moccasins were leading 13-0 after recording 14 hits and scoring runs in six of eight innings, including tallying five runs in the eighth inning.

The team's will resume Friday's suspended game at 12 p.m. Saturday with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Panthers have runners on second and third base and Scott Carcaise is scheduled to be the hitter as he was the on-deck batter when play was suspended.

Following the suspended game, the team's will play a second game on Saturday, before concluding the three-game series on Sunday, April 21 with single game beginning at 12 p.m. 

In Friday's game prior to play being suspended, sophomore third baseman Keith Curcio (Sarasota, Fla.) and redshirt junior centerfielder J.J. Downum (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) had each recorded three hits, scored a total of three runs and had 3 RBIs, while senior shortstop Kyle Gibbs (Sarasota, Fla.), senior first baseman Kyle Jackson (Avon Park, Fla.) and senior leftfielder Austin Jackson (Deltona, Fla.) each had recorded two hits in the game.
