Lynn Scores Three Goals in Final 20 Minutes to Down FSC, 4-1

Box Score

BOCA RATON â€" Florida Southern put 6th-ranked Lynn under pressure early in the match and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half saw the Knights score four times, however, including twice in less than a minute’s time midway through the period for a 4-1 victory over the Moccasins.

The Moccasins (1-3) were challenged several times in the first half by a collection of menacing crossing passes by Michel O’Neill, Jack Winter or Simon Jaenicke, but none of them resulted in a goal for the Knights (3-1-1), and most of them didn’t even end with shots. Junior defender Clay Clingerman twice stopped Lynn from scoring by making plays inside the area, once by blocking a shot by Gubisch, and once by breaking up a ball played in from Jake Furman to Javier Lopez Mochon.

Goalkeeper Andres Guzman also batted away an extremely dangerous crossing pass in the 38th minute when Mark Hanlon nearly found Chris Klarner at the back post. Three minutes later, a clearance by James Gibson kept the Knights off the board again when they were close to scoring.

All of those plays were part of a first half that saw the Moccasins held to just two shots, but Adam Hansjons and Jonathan Radvogin made sure one of them counted for a goal in the 20th minute. Hansjons was the catalyst with a diagonal ball played downfield for Radvogin on the right flank. Driving into the box, the freshman from Vasteras, Sweden chipped a shot that went off the hand of goalkeeper Harris Smiler and bounced into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

In the second half, the Knights put the Mocs under heavy pressure from the outset, and O’Neill connected on a shot from almost 30 yards out to tie the game in the 50th minute of play.

The Moccasins survived a sequence from the 51st to 56th minutes that saw the Knights take four shots and two corner kicks, with two of those shots blocked, another one saved, and another one off the post.

The Mocs weren’t as fortunate in the 71st minute when a free kick taken by Winter helped gave the Knights a 2-1 lead. It was re-directed on goal by Mochon, who got in behind the defense right in front of the net. Less than a minute later, Anthony Desperito was fouled going to goal, resulting in a penalty kick that Furman converted for a 3-1 lead.

Lynn notched its final goal in the 85th minute when Jason Sangha’s free kick from near midfield was initially headed into scoring position by Isaac Hamui, and headed a second time by Klarner, who put the ball on target.

Lynn ended up out-shooting Florida Southern 27-3 in the match, with Guzman making seven saves for the Moccasins.

Florida Southern will be at home Tuesday night when it hosts Flagler at 7:30 p.m.
