Moccasins' Win Streak Stops in Loss at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Florida Southern College men's basketball was unable to hang on to an early 10-point lead in an 83-64 loss at Embry-Riddle on Wednesday at the ICI Center.

The Moccasins (7-11) held the Eagles (10-6) scoreless for nearly six minutes to open the game, but could not slow down ERAU in the second half, as the Eagles scored 48 second-half points en route to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern raced out to an early 10-lead in the opening minutes of the game, as Embry-Riddle missed its first 11 shots before finally getting on the board on Skyler Hogan's jumper with 14:18 on the clock.
• The Moccasins led 23-13 with just under 10 minutes to play when the Eagles began their comeback. Embry-Riddle outscored Florida Southern 22-9 over the final nine minutes of the half to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
• Both teams would trade jabs early in the second half, swapping the lead six times in the opening five minutes of the half. With the score tied at 51-51 and 12:33 on the clock, the Eagles went on a 24-9 run to take a 75-60 lead with 4:04 to go and put the game out of reach.
• Embry-Riddle used a strong second-half shooting performance to overcome its poor start. The Eagles hit 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the floor in the second half.
• Florida Southern shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) on the night, but hit just 3-of-19 three-point attempts and went just 7-of-14 at the free-throw line. ERAU outscored FSC 21-9 from beyond the arc and 14-7 at the charity stripe.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 3-4 all-time against Embry-Riddle, including 2-2 at the ICI Center. The Eagles have won three-straight against the Mocs.
• Tyler Ross led all players with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds and tallied a block. Ross has scored at least 20 points in three games this season.
• Jeremiah Davis scored 14 points and Brett Hanson poured in 13 off the bench to round out Florida Southern's trio of double-digit scorers.
• Jarel Spellman had four blocks in the game, pushing his career total to 144. He currently ranks fourth in school history in career blocks and is just 19 away from breaking Christophe Humbert's school record of 162.

• Florida Southern has the weekend off before returning to Sunshine State Conference play against Rollins (Jan. 25) and Nova Southeastern (Jan. 28).
