Box Score LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College men's basketball had three players score 20 points to help erase a 10-point second-half deficit en route to a 110-100 win over Embry-Riddle on Saturday at Jenkins Field House.
The Moccasins (11-13) outscored the Eagles (14-8) by 13 points in the second half (59-46) to avenge last month's 83-64 loss in Daytona Beach.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams would keep it close throughout the early stages of the first half before Embry-Riddle used a 9-3 run midway through the half to take a 34-26 lead with 9:15 to go. The Eagles would lead by as many as nine (39-30) before Florida Southern mounted a run of its own to grab a 48-47 lead with 3:04 on the clock.
• ERAU would regain the lead before the half, ending the period on a 7-2 run to take a 54-51 lead into the locker room. The Eagles used the three-pointer to get in front early, hitting 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from beyond the arc.
• The Eagles kept the momentum rolling to start the second half, jumping out to their largest lead of the game (68-58) with 15:46 left to play. Florida Southern responded by ripping off a 12-1 run to take a 70-69 lead with just over 13 minutes to go.
• Embry-Riddle would regain the lead (71-70) with 12 minutes left, but it would mark the final lead of the night for the Eagles as Jarel Spellman's dunk on the ensuing possession put Florida Southern up for good.
• Over the final 12 minutes of play the Moccasins outscored the Eagles 40-29, including a number of dunks from Spellman, as Florida Southern finished with a 64-44 edge in the paint. The Mocs finished the night shooting 49.4 percent (40-of-81), and went 25-of-30 from the free-throw line.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 890-331 all-time in home games, including 701-188 at Jenkins Field House. The Mocs moved to 4-4 all-time against Embry-Riddle, including 2-2 at home.
• Brett Hanson led all players with a season-high 29 points while grabbing 20 rebounds, 12 of which came in the second half. Michael Volovic also poured in 29 and dished out a team-high six assists.
• Jeremiah Davis scored 24 points and went a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. Jarel Spellman just missed out on a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks.
• Spellman has recorded 55 blocks in his last 10 games. He has 88 blocks this season, and needs 27 more to set the single-season school record for blocks. Spellman is already the career blocks leader at FSC with 178 in less than two full seasons.
