Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College baseball completed the series sweep of Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, winning 10-1 in game one and 8-6 in game two at Rodda Stadium at Henley Field. The No. 30 Moccasins (8-2) have now swept two series to start the season at home, hitting well against the Railsplitters (3-7) throughout the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:

  • Tor Sehnert made the most of his home at-bat debut, blasting a three-run shot to right field that scored Alan Burnsed and Zach Diewert to put the Mocs up, 3-0.
  • Two singles and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners for the Mocs in the bottom of the third inning. A Zach Scott single scored Dylan Costa and Diewert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Railsplitters got out of the inning to keep the game at 4-0.
  • The bottom of the fourth saw the Moccasins load the bases on two singles and a walk. Jacob Teter singled to right to score Costa and Santino Miozzi. Scott then lifted a sac fly to left that scored Kyler Marquis, giving the Mocs a 7-0 lead.
  • The Splitters responded in the next inning, scoring a runner after Moore hit into a double play. Brant Brown's day finished at the end of the inning, allowing just two hits and an earned run with four strikeouts in five innings. He threw just seven balls on 46 pitches.
  • The Moccasins brought the score up to 10-1 in the seventh inning. A Scott single, Diewert double and Burnsed hit by pitch loaded the bases for Christian Maglich, who hit a sacrifice to center field that scored Scott. A Miozzi double to right center scored Sehnert and Diewert.
  • Lincoln Memorial did not go down without a fight, mounting a rally in the ninth inning. Three Railsplitters were hit by pitches to load the bases with one out. Reed Burke settled in for the Mocs, forcing an infield fly and ground out to end game one of the doubleheader at 10-1 in favor of the Mocs.
  • Brown earned his first win of the season for the Mocs, while Beau Nichols was given his second loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:

  • Game two would be a seven inning contest, as determined by the coaches beforehand.
  • LMU started the scoring in the second inning, as Sam Mast doubled with runners on first and second to bring Brandon Parrott home. A Zurriel Collins sacrifice fly brough home Scooter Ray to put the away side up, 2-0.
  • The Moccasins responded with a huge second inning. A walk, single and sac bunt put runners at second and third, with Burnsed scoring on a wild pitch. Maglich tied the game at two when he reached home on a fielding error from the infield.
  • The Mocs had a huge 2 out rally, with two singles from Teter and Scott each bringing a run home, and a Diewert bringing home the two aforementioned Mocs to put the game at 6-2.
  • Burnsed kept the game at 6-2 in the top of the third, robbing a homer from Richey.
  • Marquis hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning that brought home Cody Duke, who had previously doubled to lead off the inning.
  • Lincoln Memorial made the game interesting in the fifth inning, starting with two walks and a single that scored Richey. A hit batter and walk scored an additional runner as Thomas Spinelli came in relief.
  • An error at third scored Stinson and a passed ball brought in the fourth run of the inning to put the game at 7-6. Spinelli struck out three-straight batters to get the Mocs out of the inning.
  • The Moccasins earned an insurance run in the sixth inning after a Marquis triple and Teter sacrifice fly.
  • Spinelli earned his save in the seventh inning, as he struck out Kelley and the Railsplitters fell victim to a double play as Maglich caught a lined ball to right and threw out Mast at first, who did not tag up.
  • Michael DeSanti earned his second win in the Mocs' 8-6 win.
