Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Jacob Teter entered the top 10 in Florida Southern College baseball program history for putouts on Tuesday night as his squad defeated Winona State University, 3-2, at Rodda Stadium at Henley Field. The No. 29 Moccasins (14-8) won its third-straight game in the victory over the Warriors (6-9).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kyler Marquis started the scoring in the first inning as, after doubling to left center, stole third and went home on a throwing error from the catcher.
- Christian Maglich walked to start the second inning and made the score 2-0 after scoring on back-to-back singles Tor Sehnert and Vaun Brown. The Mocs loaded the bases for the first time in the night but Marquis struck out swinging.
- Winona State threatened in the top of the third as back-to-back singles put runners on first and second. Ben Baggett turned a bunt to third to nail the force out and forced a flyout and groundout to get out of a jam.
- Teter doubled to right field to start the bottom frame, and a fielding error and hit by pitch loaded the bases. A wild pitch scored Teter to make it 3-0 FSC. The Mocs again loaded the bases but were unable to convert for the second-straight inning.
- The Warriors put a runner on with two outs in the fourth on a single, but the first double play of the evening got the Mocs out of the frame.
- WSU had another opportunity in the top of the sixth, but another Marquis-Dylan Costa-Teter double play snuffed out the fire.
- Winona State reciprocated the favor in the bottom of the inning, throwing out Costa as he attempted to take second on a Marquis flyout.
- The Warriors made it 3-1 in the seventh as Martin launched a homer to left field.
- Two hits through the left side put Maglich and Zach Diewert on base with two out in the bottom of the inning, but a strikeout ended the threat.
- Winona State made the ninth interesting as two hits to left put runners on first and second with none out. A foul fly deep put runners on the corners, and another foul out to left brought the game within one. Cody Duke threw out the Warrior runner attempting to steal second to end the game, 3-2, for the Mocs.
- Baggett moved to 2-0 in his second appearance, while Ryan Langford earned his first save of the year. Banaszynki moved to 0-1 for the Warriors
