LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's tennis won its sixth-straight match on Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center, defeating Daemen, 6-1. The No. 18 Moccasins (7-1) swept the Wildcats (3-6) in the No. 4, 5 and 6 flights.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- FSC came out fast, winning the doubles point with Chase Martin and Danny Thomas' 6-1 decision in the No. 3 flight and Erik Nordblom and Andres Cabezas' 6-3 win in the No. 1 flight. Southern swept double after Brian Pham and Tim Becker won 6-2 in the No. 2 flight.
- The match was clinched early in singles play as Lennart Vossgaetter, Hikaru Nagoshi and Becker all swept their singles flights in two 6-0 sets.
- Thomas gave the Mocs a 5-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 3 flight.
- Pablo Salamanca won the first set of the No. 2 flight, 6-4 before falling 4-6 in the second set. Salamanca took the flight with a 10-6 tiebreaker in the third set.
- Pham battled back valiantly, winning the second set 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreaker after dropping the first set, 5-7. The comeback fell just short, however, as he heartbreakingly lost the tiebreaker, 14-12
- The win is the fourth-straight 6-1 decision for the Mocs,
