Micallef Sets Men's Swimming School Record for 50 Free

LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern men's swimming team picked up two more dominating victories for the 2020-21 season. The Mocs victories came at the hands of the Florida Tech Panthers by scores of 102-28 and 105-25. For the second straight meet all 14 events between Saturday's two meets saw Southern hit the touchpad first. Freshman Kyle Micallef set a school record in the 50 free during the first meet of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

MEET 1:

• The Southern relay team of Brandon Dyck, Ludwig Mueller, JJ Saslo, and Miguel Bernotti kicked things off with win the 400 medley relay.
• Elder Oliveira, Cole Smith, and Kyriakos "Keith" Peristeridis swept the 1000 free to give the Mocs the lead for good. The trend would continue with the 200 free as Carlos Bernotti, Luka Prostran, and Levi Parsons finished 1-2-3.
• Freshman Kyle Micallef set a school record posting a 19.98 time in the 50 free, nearly a second faster than the second place finisher. His time of 19.98 beat Diego Gimenez's time of 19.99 set in 2016.   
• Florida Southern claimed victories in all seven events.

MEET 2:

• The second meet of the day began just as the first with an FSC victory as freshman Kyle Micallef placed first in the 100 free with a 44.91 time as senior Carlos Bernotti in second with a time of 46.29.
• Dyck gave the Mocs a strong finish as he took the 200 back by a time of 1:48.74.
• Mueller and Boris Mitev would take first and second in the 200 breast with just .4 separating the two.
• Southern dominated the 500 free as all four Moccasins finished before the Panthers. The same thing would happen again in the 100 fly as the Mocs three swimmers all finished before the Panthers swimmers.
