Six Moccasins Earn IWLCA All-South Region Honors

Mocs land three on the first team and three on the second team

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has recognized six Florida Southern College women's lacrosse student-athletes to the All-South Region teams. Maliah Benedetto, Hailey Daleo, and Marina Jozokos were named to the first team. Becca Hill, Lizzy Lynch, and Patricia Werker were named to the second team.

Benedetto earns her first All-Region first-team honors after recording 24 points on 18 goals and six assists as she fired off 32 shots, 24 on goal. She was second on the team with a pair of game winning goals which came in the final two games for the Mocs. She led Southern with 22 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers, and 47 draw controls. She recorded at least a point in all ten games played and started for the Mocs in 2021.

Daleo adds another accolade to her rapidly increasing Florida Southern resume, the three-time SSC player of the week earned first team honors after leading the SSC in goals per game (5.11). She was second in points per game (5.67) and shots per game (8.00). The sophomore transfer from Stony Brook led the Mocs with 46 goals, 72 shots, three game winning goals, and 13 free position shots. She set program records in the Mocs 21-5 victory at Lynn as she recorded nine goals on 14 shots. She was also named IWLCA Player of the Week on May 11.

Jozokos earns her first IWLCA All-Region honors in her illustrious career. The senior from Wolfeboro, N.H. led the Mocs in points (59) and assists (28). She was second on the team with 31 goals which included three free position goals on five free position shots. Jozokos picked up 13 ground balls, caused eight turnovers, and won six draw controls. She had her lone double-digit point game in a 21-5 victory at Lynn. Recording 11 points, she tallied six goals on seven shots to go with five assists as well as recording the eventual game winning goal. Playing and starting in all ten games for the Mocs she recorded no less than three points in each game. Jozokos also led the SSC in assists per game (2.80) and points per game (5.90).

Hill was a driving force on the Mocs defense as she help the Mocs limit the opposition to just 62 goals on the season which equals 6.2 goals per game. The Mocs limited the opposition to less than six goals in six of ten games. The All-American from Lutherville, Md. was second on the team with 17 ground balls. She recorded two points on the season as she had a goal in the Mocs season opener against Florida Tech and tallied and assist on the Mocs final goal in a 21-5 victory at Lynn. Hill anchored a defense that held Tampa's top scorers to a single point on five total shots in the Mocs 13-9 victory against then-No. 8 Tampa.

Lynch earns her first All-Region honors as she was third in scoring for the Mocs. She tallied 40 points on 26 goals and 14 assists. She recorded 39 shots on goals for a total of 47 shots. The sophomore from Boca Raton recorded at least a point in all nine games she played in and started for the Mocs in 2021. She recorded a season high five goals in the Mocs 17-4 victory at Saint Leo and added an assist for six total points. She would match that point total twice in the Mocs final two games as she had identical stat lines with four goals and two assists in victories at Florida Tech and against Tampa. She recorded a season-high seven points in the Mocs 16-10 victory against Saint Leo as she had three goals and four assists. She also picked up 14 ground balls, caused 11 turnovers and won six draw controls.

Werker was in net for a total of 316:59 minutes and went 6-0 on the 2021 season. In eight games played, she posted a 5.49 GA/AVG making 31 saves on 95 shots faced. She picked up six ground balls including four in the Mocs 16-10 victory against Saint Leo. She led the SSC in goals against average and was second in saves percentage (.517). She was twice named SSC Defensive player of the week first on March 29 and then again on May 10.

Excluding the 2020 season, Florida Southern has landed at least two on the IWLCA All-South Region teams since the teams inaugural season in 2012 which includes a program high seven selections in 2018.
