LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's soccer team routed Trinity College on Monday night, setting a new school record for goals in a game, as they won by a final score of 18-0.
Ten different Moccasins scored in the record-breaking victory, with Kyle Carr and Henri Tophoven each tallying a hat trick.
Hunter Cole earned his first collegiate victory, as he started the game in goal for Florida Southern (3-4-5, 0-3-3 SSC) and kept the visiting Tigers scoreless in the first half.
Trinity only registered one shot attempt, as the Moccasins defense held a team to just one shot attempt for the first time since 2003.
Sophomore Nyles Lockridge scored his first collegiate goal, finishing a corner kick with a header on the back post in the game's opening minute to open the initial floodgates.
Florida Southern would go on to score four more goals in the opening ten minutes, as Dylan Lowther scored on the ensuing possession with Thompson Head earning the assist. Head was instrumental in producing the early scoring opportunities for the Moccasins, as he helped set up the third goal of the game, with Victor Beker finishing a feed from Lowther.
Head's assist marked the first collegiate point of his career so far, while Lowther and Beker both notched their first goals in the game's opening minutes.
Carr scored his first of three goals at the five-minute mark, with Nick Dittmer earning the assist. Dittmer wound up notching three assists on the day, the first time a Moccasin has achieved the accolade since 2018.
Graduate student Santiago Erazo earned a penalty kick opportunity in the tenth minute, rifling the shot into the back of the net to give the Mocs a five-goal lead.
The scoring would remain steady for the Moccasins in the first half, as Carr scored his second before an own goal to put the team up 7-0 in the 19th minute. He finished his first-half hat trick minutes later as the team kept the offensive momentum flowing.
Erazo scored his second goal of the game in the 29th minute, with Braden Hill earning an assist on the tally, his first collegiate point.
The Moccasins hit double-digits with Ethan Huggins's first collegiate score in the 35th minute as he flicked a ball into the back of the cage and put Florida Southern up 10-0.
Dittmer tacked on another goal to close out the first half and the Moccasins took an 11-0 lead into the break.
Tophoven entered the game in the second half and immediately made an impact, assisting Huggins for his second goal of the evening. The assist was Tophoven's first of the season.
Felix Tonne started the second half as well, making an immediate impact with a goal to put the Moccasins up 13-0 as Tophoven earned another assist.
Tophoven would score one himself in the 53rd minute as he made his presence felt on the scoreboard, putting the team up 14-0.
After a brief lull in the onslaught, sophomore Jay Skelcher-Maxwell fired a rocket of a shot in the 64th minute to give the Mocs the 15-goal lead. The tally was his first as a Moccasin as well.
In the same minute, Dittmer scored his second goal of the game, tying the record for most goals in a game in Moccasin history.
Tophoven would effectively break the record in the next minute, converting on a penalty kick to put the Mocs up 17-0. He would earn another penalty kick opportunity in the waning seconds of the game, putting the exclamation point on a historic night with his third goal of the game.
