HUNSTVILLE, Ala. – The Florida Southern women's cross country team took 17
th out of 44 teams Saturday morning at the Charger Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Mocs saw four student-athletes earn in personal bests in a race that featured 394 competitors. Junior
Ellie Fluman led the way and missed out on a new PR by just tenths of a second as she crossed the line in 18:35.6 on the 5K course. The time earned her 72
nd overall.
Cedarville out of Ohio won the race with 47 points while Wingate (105 pts.) and Lee (111 pts.) took second and third, respectively. The top Sunshine State Conference team was Palm Beach Atlantic which earned sixth in the team scoring with 203 points. Tampa took seventh with 217 points while Saint Leo finished in 11
th with 327 points. Embry-Riddle (14
th, 383 pts.), Nova Southeastern (16
th, 446 pts.) and Florida Southern (17
th, 502 pts.) rounded out the SSC competitors.
Junior
Jinia Johnson was the next Moccasin finisher as she took 86
th overall while turning in a new personal best of 18:41.2, shaving over half a minute off her previous best time. Sophomore
Emma Mussante rounded out the top three for the Mocs as she tied for 129
th after completing the 5K in 19:05.3.

Marisa Kortright and junior
Emery Roth completed the scoring five for the Mocs. Kortright took 134
th overall with a time of 19:09.1 while Roth finished in 146
th after crossing the line in 19:18.1.
Sophomore
Mya Stam just missed out on the scoring five as she lowered her personal best by four seconds after turning in a time of 19:26.2 to take 156
th. Freshman
Caitlin Beery took off nearly a minute and a half off her previous collegiate best as she nearly ran a sub-20 minute 5K after finishing in 196
th with a time of 20:03.0.
The final four finishers for the Mocs included sophomore

th, 20:40.8), sophomore
Emily Opalinski (255
th, 20:49.7) and junior
Carolina Titus (274
th, 21:04.0). Opalinski lowered her PR by 39 seconds in the race.
The Mocs will now have two weeks to prepare for the Sunshine State Conference Championship which will take place Saturday, Nov. 5 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
