MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Playing its first match in nearly two weeks, the Florida Southern volleyball team fell Friday night on the road at No. 18 Barry, 3-0. The Buccaneers used a strong offensive performance to down the visiting Mocs in straight-sets.

The loss drops the Mocs to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in Sunshine State Conference play. The nationally-ranked Buccaneers improved to 15-1 on the season and 8-1 in league action.

Barry hit .344 as a team and had just 10 hitting errors the entire match while the Mocs struggled to get anything going on their offensive end. Barry, who also missed time due to Hurricane Ian, was able to get back to competitive action this past Tuesday where they earned a tough 3-2 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic, just the third match this season in which they dropped a set.

Ali Travis led the Moccasin attack with six kills on 10 swings with just one hitting error to finish with a .500 hitting percentage. Junior

Madison Barton each chipped in four kills in the loss. Petermann added two service aces, a solo block and four digs to her total while Barton chipped in a dig.

Mika Garza handed out nine assists and posted three digs while junior setter
Cassidy Markel had seven assists and one dig. Graduate student libero
Beatrice Formilan was the one Moc with more than four digs in the match as she finished with 11.

Diana Akopova led Barry with 23 kills in the match while Djuly Schmorantz added 10.

The Buccaneers won in straight sets 25-16, 25-14 and 25-15.

The Moccasins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Palm Beach Atlantic for another Sunshine State Conference match.
