LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College baseball head coach
Lance Niekro '10 has released a 50-game 2023 spring schedule. The Mocs will have 27 games at home, including the season opener before traveling most of the first month of the spring season.
"As always, we will open with Gulf South foe West Florida, who always puts together a tough team," said Niekro on the home and season opener on Feb. 4 and 5 at Henley Field in Lakeland. "The following two weekends we will travel to North Georgia and Georgia College, both of which have continuously put winning teams on the field."
After Florida Southern's home opener against West Florida and the trip to Georgia, the Mocs will have a non-conference midweek matchup against Eckerd on Feb. 7. The North Georgia three-game series will begin on Feb. 10-12, with Georgia College Feb. 17-19.
After the trip to Georgia, FSC will begin conference play with Eckerd Feb. 24 and a doubleheader on Feb. 25 in St. Petersburg. After three weeks on the road, the Mocs host another non-conference matchup with Florida Tech on Feb. 28 and some northern teams during spring break. FSC will host Assumption on March 3, two games with Kentucky Wesleyan on March 6 and 7, Seton Hill on March 10, and IUP on March 13-15. The 10-game home stand concludes with conference rival Tampa on March 17 and a doubleheader on March 18 as an always exciting showdown.
The March schedule concludes with Saint Leo on the road and Palm Beach Atlantic at home. SSC play continues with Lynn April 6-8 in Boca Raton and Nova Southeastern April 14-16 in Fort Lauderdale. Florida Tech will host the Mocs in another midweek nonconference matchup on April 18, before the Mcos take on Embry-Riddle (April 21-22) and Rollins (April 28-30) at Henley Field. The last road trip of the regular season will be in Melbourne against Florida Tech May 7-8, before the regular season finale against Barry on May 12 and a doubleheader on May 13 in Lakeland.
On the strength of the conference and tough non-conference schedule, Niekro said, "the SSC is always one of, if not the toughest conference to play in. Every team is extremely competitive, and everyone has a chance to make the postseason. With that being said I like to play a tough non-conference schedule to prepare for the rigors of our conference schedule. Last year we played the toughest schedule in the country and this year has chance to be the same."
