DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern women's cross country team took sixth overall at the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Championship held in Daytona Beach, Fla. Junior
Ellie Fluman and sophomore
Emma Mussante earned Second Team All-SSC honors while Fluman was named to the All-Championship Team.
Fluman picked up her second Second Team All-SSC honors of her career after taking ninth overall in the meet, just two spots out of First Team recognition. Fluman completed the season-long 6K course in 22:56.8. Mussante secured her first all-conference honors after placing 13
th overall with a time of 23:22.6.
The next three finishers for the Mocs placed between 34
th and 37
th place to round out the scoring five. Sophomore
Marisa Kortright took 34
th in 24:54.8, just ahead of junior
Emery Roth who finished in 35
th with a time of 24:58.5. The fifth and final member of the scoring five was sophomore
Mya Stam who crossed the line in 37
th in 25:14.3.
Sophomore
Julia Svartstrom and junior
Jinia Johnson finished 51
st and 52
nd, respectively. Svartstrom completed the distance in 26:15.0 while Johnson crossed the line in 26:17.5. The next pairing for the Mocs were freshman
Caitlin Beery and sophomore
Karah McElhone who went 62
nd and 63
rd. Beery finished in 27:03.5 while McElhone turned in a time of 27:07.7.
The Mocs will now begin preparation for the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship which will be held in Lakeland on the home course of Florida Southern, Holloway Park. The event is schedule for Saturday, Nov. 19 with the women taking off at 8:55 a.m.
