LAKELAND, Fla. – Anthony Matthew of the Florida Southern men's cross country team was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year the league announced. The award is voted on by the league coaches and was announced following the completion of the 2022 SSC Cross Country Championships which were held this past weekend. Matthew becomes the sixth Moccasin in program history to bring home the honor and first since Mason Jones (2017-21) earned the distinction in 2017.
Matthew broke the Florida Southern Freshman Record for 8K at the Charger Invitational in Huntsville, Ala. earlier this season before taking 12
th at the SSC Championship to earn Second Team All-SSC honors. He has been one of the top FSC finishers all season and will look to lead the team at the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship which will be held Saturday, Nov. 19 on Florida Southern's home course, Holloway Park.
Matthew and the rest of the Mocs have begun preparation for the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship which will be held in Lakeland on the home course of Florida Southern, Holloway Park. The event is schedule for Saturday, Nov. 19 with the men taking off at 7:30 a.m.
