Three Homers Lift Mocs over Lynn Thursday Night

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team tallied another big conference win as they take down Lynn University with a score of 5-2 on Thursday night at Henley Field.

The Mocs (22-16, 13-6 SSC) scored one run in first three innings to get a comfortable lead and extended to five by the seventh. The Fighting Knights (24-16, 10-12 SSC) answered with a solo homer and a single run in the seventh, but not enough as the Mocs hold on for the win.

The Mocs were first to score with a big solo homer by Nick Wells to left center and 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Continuing with the runs, the Mocs tallied another run with an RBI double by Ryan Jenkins to bring Seth Cannady home with two outs in the second. Another two-out scenario in the third inning which allowed an RBI single by Jeff Liquori to bring Duncan Hunter home and early 3-0 lead through three innings.

While tallying the runs at the plate, the Mocs controlled the mound with Nathan Madej, reigning SSC Pitcher of the Week, as he kept the Fighting Knights scoreless through five innings of work. All the while, Florida Southern added to the score with a solo homer by Hunter to deep left field and 4-0 lead in the fifth. The first score for Lynn came with a solo homer by Murray to left field, as Mocs continued to lead 4-1 through six innings.

Not to be out done, the Mocs responded with another homer, this time a solo hit by Joe Raffaele in the bottom of the sixth to stay with a comfortable 5-1 lead. An RBI single by Orrico narrowed the deficit to three as Lynn scored in the seventh and 5-2 game into the bottom of the seventh.

The Mocs turned to Collin Camarigg in the eighth with two strikeouts to relieve Madej, who finished with season-high 10 strikeouts. In for the save, Ryan Langford did his part to retire the Fighting Knights with two strikeouts and Moccasins hold on for a 5-2 win.
