Another Conference Series Sweep for Mocs with Win over Lynn

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team earn their second conference series sweep in a row after a great doubleheader matchup and series win against Lynn University Friday afternoon at Henley Field.

The Mocs (24-16, 15-6 SSC) battled at the mound for most of game one, with great pitching to hold off Lynn and 3-1 game one win. The Fighting Knights (24-18, 10-14 SSC) took the lead in game two, but Mocs rally to score two and win 2-1 and sweep the series.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 3, LYNN 1
A change in pace for Lynn as they started the game with four hits in the first two innings. The Fighting Knights were first to score with an RBI single by Avino in the top of the second. The Mocs responded with a run of their own as Jeff Liquori singled to get on base. An error on a pickoff attempt sent Liquori to third as Seth Cannady would bring him home with an RBI single to right field and tie game through two.

After an early start exchanging hits, both teams went scoreless through a couple innings to turn into a pitching dual between the Mocs Aric McAtee and Fighting Knights Marcus Eusebio. With a big leadoff double by Julio Cortez to start the fifth, a deep sacrifice fly by Nick Wells brought Cortez home with a 2-1 Moccasin lead through five innings.

A bases loaded situation in the bottom of the sixth after singles by Liquori, Connor Berry, and Jared DeSantolo allowed the Mocs to score one off a wild pitch but leave one on with a 3-1 lead through six. A slight bump in the road as Lynn had the bases loaded with two outs, but Mitchell LeRoy entered to relieve and retire the order and leave all three on base. Once again in for the save, Ryan Langford entered and struck out two for the Mocs to win the game 3-1.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, LYNN 1
A slight adjustment from game one for Lynn as they came out swinging for game two with four hits in the third inning, to lead to the first score of the game. Two outs and two on, the Fighting Knights hit an RBI single by Alfonzo to take the 1-0 lead.

Florida Southern answered in the bottom of the fifth after two scoreless innings with a solo homer by Seth Cannady to deep right center and tie game through five. Despite a couple hits between the two teams, a great job on the mound as both teams stayed a tie through the top of the seventh.

The Mocs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a big RBI double by Wells to bring Ryan Jenkins home. Despite a bases loaded situation for the Mocs, Lynn escapes with only one run given up as Florida Southern took the 2-1 lead through seven innings. The Fighting Knights had a bases loaded scenario of their own in the top of the eighth, but Collin Camarigg came in to relieve Christian Suarez to help the Mocs escape the inning and leave all Lynn players on. Another great inning for Camarigg as he struck out one in the ninth and Mocs hold on for 2-1 win.
