LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team fall 13-5 to No. 11 Rollins College in a midweek non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at Henley Field.
The Mocs (24-17, 15-6 SSC) tied the game in the bottom of the first, but unable to stay in the game as Rollins moves on. The Tars (29-11, 13-8 SSC) extended to a big lead led by two home runs by Nick Santucci.
A high-scoring first inning for both teams as Rollins started the runs with a three-run homer by Santucci with two outs. The Mocs responded with a bases loaded situation which
Connor Berry was walked to bring
Nathan Chevalier home for the free run. A big two RBI single by
Jared DeSantolo to bring
Jeff Liquori and
Duncan Hunter home and 3-3 tie game through one inning.
The second inning went scoreless by both teams led to another three-run inning by the Tars. Torres hit a sacrifice fly before another two-run homer by Santucci to bring a 6-3 score. Rollins didn't stop there as they went for a third straight inning with three runs scored to extend the lead to nine and 12-3 score through six innings.
Scoreless innings the next three innings as the Mocs continued to use the bullpen with eight different pitchers on the night. A solo homer by Berry brough the score to a 12-4 game, but Tars responded with a solo homer by Herron to keep the lead a 13-4 score, which Rollins keeps for the win, despite an RBI by Berry to bring the final score to 13-5.
