Softball Fall to No. 11 Tampa on Senior Day

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College Softball team fell on senior day in a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference rival No.11 the University of Tampa. In game one the Mocs fell 1-0 and before finishing the series in game two 8-0 in six innings.

The Moccasins kicked off the top of the first with the first three Spartan batters out, advancing quickly into the bottom of the first. The Mocs and Spartans battled it out in the next four innings keeping either from scoring a run. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth Mariah Rodriguez singled to left-center and put Leanna Kelly in to run at first base. Victoria Rodriguez singled to the right-center advancing Kelly to second. Jessica Bryson grounded out with a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners but was stranded leaving the game scoreless after five.
 
In the top of the sixth, the Mocs continued to battle hard, but the Spartans were able to score on a wild pitch. 
 
The Mocs were able to keep the University of Tampa from scoring in the top of the seventh but were unable to tie up the scores after a close game, costing them the win.

The Spartans took an early lead finishing up the top of the first with two runs. At the bottom of the first, Kelsey Peck singled through the left side. Shortly after Peck's hit, Myah Moy singled through the left side advancing Peck to be left stranded in scoring position. 
 
The Spartans continued to score, increasing their lead to 5-0 after four innings. The battle for FSC was cut short in six innings as the Spartans took an 8-0 lead with three additional runs in the top of the sixth. 
 
Up Next:
The Mocs will continue in the Sunshine State Conference with a doubleheader on April 27th against Embry-Riddle University in Lakeland on the Chris Bellotto Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm for the final home SSC series.
