LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern opened up their last regular-season home series for the year with a doubleheader against Embry-Riddle on Wednesday evening. The Mocs fell 6-0 in the first game and 14-1 in the second in the Sunshine State Conference series.

In the first two innings, both Southern and Embry-Riddle were held scoreless as both teams put up a strong defensive effort. In the bottom of the first,
Destiny Colgate hit a ball hard to the shortstop and advanced to first base, but after a throwing error from the Eagles, she ran to second and into scoring position. Unfortunately, the Mocs were not able to capitalize on the Eagles' error.
The Eagles put up an offensive effort in the third inning with three hits and a run scored. However, it was the fourth inning where they did their real damage. They racked up four runs and three hits to put the Mocs in a 5-0 hole. The Embry-Riddle struck again in the fifth with a solo home run to take a 6-0 lead.
Despite the deficit, the Mocs tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh with a single from pinch-hitter
Delaney Asbury. Unfortunately, the Mocs effort fell flat as they dropped the first game to Embry-Riddle.

Florida Southern struck first in the second game of the night and held Embry-Riddle scoreless in the top of the first two innings with
Mel Rogers in the circle.
At the bottom of the first,
Jessica Bryson singled to the shortstop to start things off for the Mocs. With a runner on,
Myah Moy hit an RBI double to deep center field that allowed Bryson to score.
The Eagles began to gain some traction in the third inning as they scored two runs. Then another four in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, the Eagles added another eight runs and the game was called after that.

The Mocs close out their series against the Eagles tomorrow evening at Chris Bellotto Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
