WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College baseball team tallies another road conference win as they win 1-0 over Palm Beach Atlantic University Friday night at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
The Mocs (19-15, 10-6 SSC) had a solo homer by
Jared DeSantolo in the fifth enough for the 1-0 win. The Sailfish (14-22, 5-14 SSC) outhit the Mocs five-to-three, but unable to tally runs for the Florida Southern win.
A near upset in the bottom of the first for the Mocs as Palm Beach Atlantic had three hits and a fielder's choice to set up a bases loaded situation with only one out. The Mocs stayed firm with
Nathan Madej on the mound, who struck out two straight batters to leave three on base and no runs through one inning.
Both teams traded quick innings as they remained scoreless through four innings and no hits since the first inning. The Mocs changed that in the top of the fifth as they had DeSantolo for a solo homer an 1-0 lead in the fifth.
Neither team had hits for the next two innings as the Mocs looked to add runs in the top of the eighth with hits by
Joe Raffaele and
Ryan Jenkins but left on base as the Sailfish looked to comeback from their 1-0 deficit. Florida Southern had great pitching by Madej through seven innings, striking out eight, as
Collin Camarigg relieved him in the eighth where the Sailfish had one hit but no runs.
Ryan Langford entered in the ninth and struck out three as Florida Southern held on for the 1-0 win.
