  • Date | Time: Sept. 13, 2022 | 7:00 PM
  • Location: St. Augustine, Fla. | Saints Field
  • Records: Florida Southern 2-2-1, 0-1-0 SSC | Flagler 2-1-1, 1-0-1 PBC
  • Florida Southern is back on the road tomorrow evening with another matchup this time the Mocs face non-conference opponent Flagler. FSC is now 1-2 on the road with its only road win being against Delta State at the beginning of the season. Southern is hoping to return home with a win after falling just barely short in the Sunshine State Conference opener this past weekend at Nova Southeastern 2-1.
  • Henri Tophoven was the only Moc to score on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale with an assist from Sam Michaels scoring in the 85th minute to close in on the Sharks 2-0 lead. AJ Pearce earned five saves for Southern allowing two goals on 11 shots, eight of those shots being in the second half.
  • Flagler currently owns a 2-1-1 record winning its conference opener 3-0 against Georgia Southwestern and later earning a draw against Young Harris over the weekend 1-1. On the year, the Saints are out-scoring their opponents 7-to-5 and 55 shots to their opponents 37.
  • The Saints are led by redshirt junior Dan McGuire who has two goals on the season, one in the season opener versus Newberry and second in the PBC opener. Following McGuire is Jarend Fuentes, Paul Hansen, Jesse van Krimpen, and Kohta Uchida with one goal apiece. Marc Birkelund the only Flagler player with two assists followed by Fuentes, Hansen, and George Winser with an assist. In the goal, the Saints have Tirso Trueba, a sophomore from Puebla, Mexico holding down the net with 14 saves on the year allowing just five goals in four games.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs have won the last two meetings between the Saints but winning in shutouts. The last meeting was in 2018 in Saint Augustine for a 3-0 shutout as one of the first two goals was scored in the ten minutes of action by former standout James Meehan with an assist with current grad student Julian Jordan-Canosa. The final goal agains the Saints was by the current FSC assistant coach Pablo Gallo Arias '19 for the Mocs to win 3-0. Despite the last two wins against Flagler, the Saints own a 7-13-1 record.
  • Opponent: Edward Waters
  • Date | Time: Sept. 14, 2022 | 7:00 PM
  • Location: Jacksonville, Fla. | Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium
  • Records: Florida Southern 2-1-2, 0-1-0 SSC | Edward Waters 1-4-0, 0-0-0 SIAC
  • Florida Southern Florida Southern dropped its conference opener Saturday night 3-1 in what was a second-half battle against Nova Southeastern. The Mocs scored in the first two minutes of the game after keeper Jenny Staten booted a deep ball past midfield to a sprinting Caitlyn Lowery for the one-on-one. Lowery sent it past the Nova goalie an early 1-0 lead. NSU equalized in the first half for a tie game at halftime. The Sharks carried the momentum into the second half with early attacks that led to a two-goal advantage with 20 minutes left in the game. A late push by the Mocs fell short with a 3-1 conference loss.
  • C. Lowery hit her second goal of the season to tie Alison Jenkins, who scored twice in a win over Spring Hill in the third game of the season. Despite the Saturday loss, the Mocs continue to dominate shots against their opponents and nine total goals in the first five games of the season. Florida Southern has seven different goal scorers and six different players each with one assist. Overall, the Mocs sit in the upper half of the conference in nearly every offensive category with 71 shots and 33 shots on goal. Early wins in the season were a direct result of a strong attack, which FSC hopes to continue with their midweek matchup.
  • Using three different goalies this year, the Mocs have five saves on the year combined and three shutouts. Staten leads with four of those saves, two each in her last two starts. Built by a great backline defense of veterans, transfers, and talented freshmen, Florida Southern goalies have only faced 45 shots this year, compared to 71 of our opponents. A strong defense, paired with a great offensive push elevates the Mocs in their competition and the same will continue on the road against the Tigers.
  • Edward Waters host the Mocs after back-to-back losses last week, the first in a 6-0 loss to fellow SSC opponent Saint Leo. The Lions had back-to-back goals in the first half Thursday night and added another four goals in the second for a dominant 6-0 win, despite 11 saves by the Tigers. Similar story Saturday night as Edward Waters lost 5-0 against Thomas University with four goals by the Night Hawks' Analeice Wilkes. EWU added another five saves in that match.
  • Unable to tally many shots on goal, the Tigers face a high number of shots on goal themselves with high save counts while allowing 26 goals in the first five games of the season. EWU scored twice in a 2-1 win over LaGrange College in the third game of the year but dropped its last two.
  • HISTORY: Just the second time these two teams have met, Florida Southern and Edward Waters will place twice this season with a home-and-home series, the Lakeland matchup coming on Oct. 5th. The first time the Mocs faced the Tigers was last season's season opener, where the Mocs won 7-0. C. Lowery had two goals in that match with another five goal-scorers.
  • Opponent: Florida Tech
  • Date | Time: Sept. 15, 2022 | 7:00 PM
  • Location: Melbourne, Fla. | Charles and Ruth Clemente Center
  • Records: Florida Southern 5-4, 0-2 SSC | Florida Tech 5-5, 0-2 SSC
  • Florida Southern hits the road to take on Florida Tech Thursday night. Garza and freshman Morgan Word lead a potent serving attack as they each have 12 service aces this season. Travis sits right behind with 11 of her own.
  • Defensively, graduate student libero Beatrice Formilan leads the back line with 4.32 digs per set to rank fifth in the SSC. The top non-libero in digs is Travis who is averaging 2.52 digs per set, just ahead of sophomore Zoe Lowe who is averaging 2.50 digs per set. At the net, Sophomore Madison Fowler continues to pace the team with 19 total blocks for an average of 0.73 per set. She is joined in double-figures by Word (13) and Shaddix (10).
  • Florida Tech is coming off back-to-back losses to open up SSC play. The Panthers fell at home to Embry-Riddle 3-0 before going five sets on the road at Rollins before falling 3-2. The Mocs and Panthers have faced just one similar opponent this season in Eckerd where both teams fell 3-0 to the Tritons in St. Petersburg.
  • Redshirt junior Katie Erdmann leads the Panthers with 3.54 kills per set to rank fourth in the SSC. Junior Lexi Lueger (2.72) and graduate student Victoria Bowrosen (2.40) rank second and third on the Panther team in kills per set and both average over 2.40 kills per set. Freshman setter Kenzie Delacher has been running the offense and is averaging 9.78 assists per set so far this season. Freshman Kari Bogen leads the team at the service line with 11 aces in 2022. Delacher and freshman Courtney Capar each have 10 aces.
  • Defensively, Bogen leads the backline with 4.73 digs per set to rank third in the SSC. Delacher is the top non-libero with 2.65 digs per set. At the net, freshman Devyn Glassgold leads the way with 22 blocks while averaging 0.67 per set. Three others have reached double-figure block numbers as well.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs and Panthers have met 79 times on the volleyball court with the Mocs taking 70 of those match-ups. Florida Tech most recently won in the series in 2019 when they took both match-ups off the Mocs including a 3-2 victory in Melbourne and a 3-0 sweep in Lakeland. The Mocs have won the three most recent meetings including winning 3-0 in Lakeland in 2021 and 3-1 in Melbourne.
