  • Florida Southern continues its short road trip with a visit to Saint Leo Saturday afternoon. The Mocs picked up their first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season Thursday night at Florida Tech and look to start a conference win-streak Saturday inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
  • Junior Mackenzie Petermann, who had an outstanding performance against Florida Tech, continues to lead the Mocs offensively with 3.76 kills per set which ranks her fourth in the SSC so far this season. Senior Ali Travis (2.82) and graduate student Emma Shaddix (2.15) rank second and third on the team, respectively, and are each averaging over 2.15 kills per set this season. Senior Mika Garza continues to run the offense from her setter position and is averaging 10.38 assist per set to rank fourth in the SSC. Garza also leads a potent serving attack with a team-high 13 service aces this season. Travis and freshman Morgan Word sit right behind with 12 aces each.
  • Defensively, graduate student libero Beatrice Formilan leads the back line with 4.32 digs per set to rank fifth in the SSC. The top non-libero in digs is Petermann who is averaging 2.59 digs per set, just ahead of Travis who is averaging 2.56 digs per set. At the net, sophomore Madison Fowler continues to pace the team with 20 total blocks for an average of 0.69 per set. She is joined in double-figures by Word (17) and Shaddix (14).
  • Saint Leo has dropped back-to-back conference contests to Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle. The Lions opened SSC play with a 3-0 sweep of Rollins at home. Prior to league play, the Lions went 4-4 over a pair of road tournaments at Missouri-St. Louis and Lee.
  • Redshirt senior Elizabeth Sandoval leads the Lions with 3.00 kills per set and she is followed by senior Ally-Reese Williams (2.85) and sophomore Colby Stempkowski (2.00) who are each averaging over 2.00 kills per set. Freshman Tajma Muharemovic and senior Skylar Singleton have split time at setter and are each averaging just over 5.70 assists per set. Singleton leads the team at the service line with 10 total aces.
  • Defensively, junior Jeanette Henderson leads the backline with 3.75 digs per set. Stempkowski has patrolled the net and has a team-best 30 total blocks. Her next highest teammate, Kennedy DeLuca, has just 19.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs and Lions have met 89 times on the volleyball court over the history of the two programs with Florida Southern holding a dominating 77-12 record in the series. The Mocs won 60-straight matches over Saint Leo from October of 1976 until October of 2008. Following the 60-match streak, the Lions went on their own five-match win streak from 2008 until 2010. FSC has won two-straight in the series including a pair of 3-1 victories over the Lions last season.
  • Opponent: Lynn
  • Date | Time: Sept. 17, 2022 | 6:00 PM
  • Location: Boca Raton, Fla. | Bobby Campbell Stadium
  • Records: Florida Southern 3-1-2, 0-1-0 SSC | Lynn 2-4-0, 0-2-0 SSC
  • Florida Southern set a new program record in their last game, an 8-1 win against Edward Waters on the road. The eight goals, most since the program's start in 1998, came with four goals in each half and overall dominating performance by the entire team. Freshmen Jasmin Adames and Malia Brost each scored two goals in the contest, each the first collegiate goals for the newcomers. Caitlyn Lowery echoed similar vibes from her performance against Nova Southeastern, this time a goal in the first three minutes of the game. Other goal-scorers included Angelina Coelho, Claire DuRee, and Morgan Collica. The Tigers' only goal was from a penalty kick just outside the reach of keeper Heidi Harris, who finished with two saves in the game.
  • The early goal by C. Lowery set a new team-high three goals on the season, with multiple players with two goals each. The offensive goal scoring is the best start for the Moccasins in recent years and a great show of athleticism by the athletes and coaching staff. Utilizing many substitutions and a flexible midfield game, the Mocs continued their spread of attack with nine different players with at least one goal.
  • Freshman keeper Harris played most of the second half for the Mocs and added two saves to her tally and now has three on the season to equal Jenny Staten's saves. Depth at goalkeeping continues to be a tool for the Mocs as each of the three keepers has playing time this year. As a team, Florida Southern has given up five goals, compared to scoring 17 in the first six games of the year.
  • Lynn hosts the Mocs in a conference matchup, after the Fighting Knights have lost their last two conference games. A close 2-1 loss to Rollins last weekend, despite a late push for a comeback. The Tars scored two goals to start the second half and held Lynn to just one goal in the last five minutes to hand the Fighting Knights their first SSC loss. A midweek battle against a tough Nova Southeastern squad proved similar results, this time a 3-0 loss on the road before hosting the Mocs on Saturday night.
  • The Fighting Knights are led by Anniina Sankoh with two goals and one assist on the year so far. Four additional goal scorers set up the six goals scored on the year for Lynn. Addison Crone leads with two assists, compared to 12 goals scored by their opponents. The tough attack by the Mocs may prove a challenge for the Lynn squad with 17 goals by the Mocs in the first six games. In goal, Lynn has three keepers with starts in the early stages of the season, with Denise Mendoza leading with three starts and 15 saves on the year.
  • HISTORY: Florida Southern and Lynn have a near-even history when competing against each other. The Mocs have a 12-to-nine win advantage, with eight ties between the two. Often a low scoring affair, averaging 1.69 goals a game, last time these two met, was a 3-1 Moccains win in Lakeland.
  • Opponent: Lynn
  • Date | Time: Sept. 17, 2022 | 7:00 PM
  • Location: Lakeland, Fla. | Berend Field
  • Records: Florida Southern 2-2-2, 0-1-0 SSC | Lynn 0-3-3, 0-2-0 SSC
  • Florida Southern return to Berend Field to host its first home Sunshine State Conference game of the 2022 season. The Mocs are coming off a 1-1 draw against non-conference opponent Flagler on Tuesday evening when Henri Tophoven scored in the 36th minute on an open goal. The Mocs are currently 2-2-2 overall with a 0-1 conference record, their only SSC game being a loss at Nova Southeastern a week ago. The Sharks are currently sitting at the top of the conference while FSC is sitting in the middle.
  • Tophoven is the leading Moc thus far this season, tying the school record in his last game with goals scored in five consecutive matches. Southern has nine goals on the season with seven being from former United Soccer Coaches national player of the week. The other two goals come from junior Kyle Carr and sophomore Dino Leddie against Delta State during the Mocs opening weekend in Mississippi. Florida Southern has seven total Mocs with at least one assist in Felix Tonne (2), Victor Beker, Luca Bernoth, Leoluca Diefenbach, Sam Michaels, and Daniel Miranda.
  • Within the SSC, Tophoven is leading the pack with 12 shots on goal, goals (7), and points with 14 to sit at the number one spot. Tophoven is second within the conference for game-winning goals with two to tie Harry Gardner at PBA. The Mocs are sitting now at third for saves for 22 total saves and a .733 save percentage .
  • Lynn is coming into the contest against FSC looking for their first win in the 2022 season, as the Fighting Knights are 0-3-3 so far this season. Lynn has played the same games as the Mocs, but has one game more in conference action so they sit at 0-2 in the SSC.. The last two contests for the Fighting Knights were losses in conference as they fell to Nova Southeastern in a shutout 3-0, making the Sharks the team to beat at the moment.
  • The Fighting Knights are led by graduate student David Bauer scoring two goals and two assists in five games tallying six points. Junior, Roman Hartleb has scored the most goals for Lynn with three goals to tie Bauer with the most points and being the only Fighting Knight to score against another SSC team.
  • HISTORY: The Mocs currently have just three wins against the Fighting Knights since their first meeting in 1983 that resulted in a 2-0 loss. The last win Southern has seen against Lynn was in 2018 with a 1-0 decision. The home record against the Fighting Knights sits at 1-15 while the Mocs have won just one more game down in Boca Raton.
