Water Ski Set for Regionals

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College water ski team's season has kicked off and the Moccasins are on their way to regionals this weekend in Greenwood, S.C. The Mocs will compete on Saturday and Sunday racing top competitors from throughout the region.

FSC opened up its season this past weekend with a matchup against Rollins where the Mocs defeated the Tars 1,015 to 365.

The Mocs had an extremely successful opening weekend as John Horwood, Collin Frucci and Evan Robbins led the way and are looking ahead to another successful weekend at regionals.

"John (Horwood) did really well this weekend as well as Evan (Robbins) and Collin (Frucci), I am expecting big things from these guys this weekend, but really the entire men's team as a whole is capable of having a successful weekend," stated head coach Curtis Rabe.

On the water, Horwood took home the first-place finish in both the jump and overall with a jump distance of 160 feet. Robbins followed with a jump of 152, just ahead of Chris Horwood who had a jump of 141. Alex Gaharan (140 feet) and Frucci (131 feet) rounded out the top five for FSC.

For the women, the top competitors so far this season are Rea Jörger and Olivia Chute who finished first and second, respectively, for the Moccasins against Rollins this past weekend. Jörger placed first in the jump at 137 feet, while Chute finished third in tricks and slalom, tying teammate Jörger for third in the slalom.

"My expectations are to win," said Rabe. "This weekend at Regionals we will face harder competitors as Rollins will have their entire roster there and the University of Alabama is just a monster and our biggest target going into this."

"I know we can do it and compete with the biggest schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson," remarked Rabe. "We are stronger than these big schools. We are training harder and practices are going really well. We are out there when the sun comes up every single day and don't give up until our arms fall off. We are loaded with talent on this team and I just expect to do well and win."
